Calling services

Learn about 411 directory assistance, caller ID, call waiting, and call forwarding.

411 directory assistance

411 directory assistance allows you to reach a live operator for directory assistance from your T-Mobile phone.

To connect, dial 411 and send the call. Each 411 call costs up to $1.99 (plus talk time for Prepaid plans). Three directory listings are included per call.

Call forwarding

Call forwarding allows you to forward your incoming calls to another number. Not only can you set it up to forward all your calls immediately, you also have other options. You can also set it up to forward if you don't answer the call, if your phone is turned off, or if you're out of signal range.

Be aware of the following when using call forwarding:

  • You can't forward calls to international numbers.
  • You can only forward calls to 10- or 11-digit numbers.
  • Forwarding while roaming depends on the host country's network capabilities.

To set up call forwarding, visit the Phones page. Select your phone, then go to Calls > Call forwarding to view the steps.

If you need help with forwarding your calls during a T-Mobile Test Drive, see T-Mobile Test Drive call forwarding how-tos.

Call waiting

Call waiting and call hold are used together. If you receive an incoming call while you're already on the phone, you'll hear a tone letting you know another call is coming in. If you answer the incoming call, the first call will automatically be placed on hold. You can then switch between the calls, or join the calls together using conference calling.

For Pay in Advance (Prepaid) plans, minutes are deducted for each incoming call when using call waiting.

Caller ID

Caller ID is a free service that let's you know who is calling by displaying their number on your phone. If the caller's contact information is stored in your phone, you'll see their name as well. Because of landline limitations, some numbers may not display on Caller ID.

If you have a landline phone, you most likely have Enhanced Landline Caller ID. If not, a combination of the caller's city, state, or 'Wireless caller' and their mobile number displays on the caller ID.

Name ID

For a monthly fee, Name ID lets you see the name and number calling, even if you don't have the caller's information stored in your phone. This service is available to our Simple Choice™ Plan customers. You can add Name ID to your line by changing your services on My T-Mobile.

Anonymous callers

When you receive calls, the telephone number of the caller is generally delivered to your mobile device, allowing you to ID the number (and the name you entered into your contacts) of a caller before answering. However, the FCC has mandated that mobile carriers allow callers the ability to block their Caller ID information and thus place “anonymous” calls. T-Mobile is obligated to honor the privacy of the caller in these circumstances. Of course, you may choose not to accept such calls. But we cannot block the call or override the privacy choice of the caller.

Before you make a call, you can choose to block your Caller ID information. Simply dial *67 prior to dialing the called party’s number.
